EAST LIONS COMMUNITY CENTRE OFFICIALLY OPENS!
After a long, long, long wait…Friday December 17th the East Lions Community Centre officially OPENS!!!
This is a long overdue but incredibly important edition to the Argyle neighbourhood and the wider east London community. Behind schedule before I was even elected and faced with practically every delay imaginable, it felt like this day was never going to come.
But, in the spirit of the season, it felt like being a kid on Christmas Eve to be able to share the opening day announcement this week. The *gift* of our new community is finally ready for us to open together, and will be enjoyed by many generations now and in the years to come.
East Lions Park Space Opening for Summer Use
London’s Ward 2 residents have some new recreation amenities to enjoy now that the majority of East Lions Park is open for use starting today.
The park boasts a brand-new tennis court, two dedicated pickleball courts, a full basketball court, walking paths and even a couple sets of lounge chairs to enjoy the scenery. A unique first in London, the park also features a ping pong table with a metal net – just bring your paddles and a ping pong ball and you are all set to play. As we mark the Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, unable to gather for public ceremonies or at the local Royal Canadian Legion branches due to COVID-19, it is still important to remember.
Play Your Way! Parks, Arenas, & Recreation Centres Matter
Whether we are talking about big parks with lots of amenities or small ones, like Vimy Ridge Park at the Hale and Trafalgar roundabout, the evidence is in: Park spaces are good for our bodies and our minds, green space matters. And good recreation facilities are key to encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle.
