• Ward 2’s Vimy Ridge Park Becomes Official

More than two years after it was opposed by the former Ward 2 Councillor and referred back to city staff to review other options, the Community and Protective Services Committee of London City Council unanimously endorses the motion by new Ward 2 Councillor Shawn Lewis to officially designate Vimy Ridge Park.

The strip of land on the south east corner of the Hale St. and Trafalgar St. overpass had become a “temporary park” site after community members placed features commemorating Canadian veterans on the public lands.  Over the course of several years benches, and a flag pole flying the Canadian flag were also added, all funded through private donations.

Designating the site an official park garnered support from the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Vimy Foundation of Canada. It was championed by Lewis prior to his election as chairperson of the Argyle Community Association which through the Adopt-A-Park program organizes a community clean-up of the site twice a year.
