• A Public School for Summerside

Through my work at MP Irene Mathyssen’s office, involvement with the Friends of Meadowlily Woods, and volunteering with minor hockey, I’ve heard over and over again from parents in Ward 14’s Summerside Community that they want, and NEED, a public school in their neighbourhood!

The need was identified over a decade ago however the current trustees have failed to address it. I understand the School Board has budgets to meet. I understand that if elected, I will still be only a single vote on the board and cannot make this happen on my own. But if elected, families can count on me to be a vocal advocate for breaking ground and getting a Summerside School built as a “new location” priority.

It is necessary for children and families in Summerside to have a school to build a community around, but it is also necessary for the London community at large. The development of Summerside as a vibrant neighbourhood has stalled and the lack of a neighbourhood school is a significant factor in that reality.

So I will work not only to build support for a new school with my fellow trustees, but will use my experience in working with various levels of government to build support with City Council members, MPPs and the community at large.
