Shawn is a political aide to Member of Parliament Irene Mathyssen, a position he’s held since 2006 in her constituency office in east London. In that role Shawn was twice voted by fellow staffers across party lines as one of Canada’s top 3 riding staff in the annual Hill Times survey.

Shawn has worked on political campaigns at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels since 2003. He has been the communications chief and assistant campaign manager for all of MP Irene Mathyssen’s successful election bids, and was the campaign manager for Josh Morgan’s successful City Council campaign in Ward 7 in 2014.

Prior to entering the political arena Shawn worked in the manufacturing sector and was a union steward with United Steelworkers, and in the restaurant & hospitality sector. He studied computer technology at Westervelt College as well as completing journalism and municipal administration courses at Fanshawe College.

In 2014 Shawn was appointed as a member of the City of London’s Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards, helping to adjudicate requests for variances to municipal zoning and by-law requirements and property standards complaints. Shawn also serves the community as a Commissioner of Oaths for the Province of Ontario since his appointment in 2010.

Shawn is the host of the #LdnOnt TV show on Rogers TV London (@LdnOntTV), the weekly program that looks at current affairs in the community as seen through social media. He is also a regular guest on AM980 news radio’s Craig Needles Show for the “Friday Roundtable” talking about political issues of the week.

Shawn is also a member of his local Royal Canadian Legion, chair person for 2017 of the Argyle Community Association and a volunteer with the London Bandits minor hockey association.
